About Polkka Jam
Polkka Jam is a family company founded by Kristiina Haapalainen and Sami Vähä-Aho.
They met while they were students in Kuopio, and are currently based on the island of Kimito.
Polkka Jam was born in 2002.
Our goal was to combine fresh Finnish design with traditional craftsmanship. Initially, all of our products were made by hand one by one, but today they are manufactured by factories in Finland.
However, we still create handmade products on a limited basis.
When creating our designs, we draw inspiration from our surroundings, such as the town, nature, our home, and our studio.
We have spent a long time with passion building the world of Polkka Jam together.
Production
We value local production and "made in Finland" quality.
Our goal is to keep production as close to the end user as possible. We also strive to use natural materials whenever possible.
For example, we use organic cotton for our bed linens and linen-cotton blends for our other textile products.
We use 100% harmless water-based colors for printing our textiles and recycled paper for our paper products.
Environmental Consideration
We never use air transport to ship our environmentally consciously manufactured products.
For one of our product categories, paper items, we use only 100% recycled paper. Using recycled paper helps reduce waste of energy and resources.
Additionally, our manufacturing partners engage in environmentally friendly production.
Our products are printed at a factory in Turku using printing paper certified with the EU Ecolabel and Nordic Ecolabel, and verified by FSC and PEFC.
Furthermore, our linen-cotton fabrics are produced in a textile mill in Lithuania that belongs to the Masters of Linen network.
The Masters of Linen network is certified by an international organization that promotes high-quality European linen.
We manufacture with as little waste as possible and create recyclable products.
Our goal is to create high-quality products that can be used for a long time, which leads to a reduction in our ecological footprint.
