Abildgård
Danish ceramic designer Jette Abildgård has been creating art pieces since graduating from art school in the 1970s.
Initially, she focused primarily on ceramics, working with gray, blue, and red clays. One day, while looking at a close-up of a piece of pottery, she was reminded that the very first piece she created was painted in pink and blue, inspired by the sea and the sky. Since 1982, she has dedicated herself to creating art exclusively through ceramics. Many of her Christmas ornaments are produced through a ten-stage process. This includes three firings: a low-temperature bisque firing, a firing after glazing, and a final firing after the application of gold, reflecting the great care taken in their creation.
Jette's Philosophy
Jette says she wakes up at 5:00 a.m. every morning to make her Christmas ornaments. It is her habit to sit in the chair of her private workshop and begin painting angels while enjoying the beauty of the sunrise and the nature stretching out beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows. Feeling the changes in nature seems to serve as inspiration for her art. Angels were the first designs she created for her Christmas ornaments; later, several other designs were added to complete the current collection. "My Christmas ornaments are simple," she says. "By being pure and transparent, without gaudy decorations, the designs fit perfectly into any style of home interior, no matter how trends may change." Her ornaments feature highly traditional Christmas symbols such as hearts, angels, and cones. She uses white as a base color and gold for decoration. If she chooses to use color, blue is her first choice.
