About Polkka Jam
Polkka Jam is a family company founded by Kristiina Haapalainen and Sami Vähä-Aho.
The two met while they were students in Kuopio, and they are currently based on the island of Kimito.
Polkka Jam was established in 2002.
Our goal was to combine fresh Finnish design with traditional craftsmanship. While all products were originally handmade by us one by one, they are now manufactured by factories in Finland.
However, we still create some limited handmade products ourselves.
When creating designs, we draw inspiration from our surroundings, such as the town, nature, our home, and our studio.
We have built the world of Polkka Jam together over a long period with great passion.
Production
We value local production and the "Made in Finland" label.
Our goal is to keep production as close to the end user as possible. We also strive to use natural materials as much as we can.
For example, we use organic cotton for bed linen and a linen-cotton blend for other textile products.
For textile printing, we use 100% non-toxic, water-based colors, and we use recycled paper for our paper products.
Environmental Consideration
We never use air transport for shipping our environmentally conscious products.
For our paper items, which are one of our product groups, we exclusively use 100% recycled paper. By using recycled paper, we can reduce waste of energy and resources.
Furthermore, our manufacturing partners engage in environmentally friendly production.
Our products are printed at a factory in Turku using printing paper certified with the EU Ecolabel and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, and verified by FSC and PEFC.
Our linen-cotton fabrics are produced at a weaving mill in Lithuania that belongs to the Masters of Linen network, which is located in Finland.
The Masters of Linen network is certified by an international organization that promotes high-quality European linen.
We manufacture with as little waste as possible and create products that are recyclable.
Our goal is to create high-quality products that can be used for a long time, which leads to a reduction in our ecological footprint.
