About Tonfisk

Turku, the home of Tonfisk, is a port city located in southwestern Finland, a two-hour express train ride from the capital, Helsinki. It flourished as the capital of Finland until the capital was moved to Helsinki in 1812. (In Swedish, it is known as Åbo.) The Aura River flows through the center of the town, and stylish cafes line its banks. The Turku Castle and Turku Cathedral serve as symbols of the city, and the Market Square (kauppatori) in the heart of town is always bustling with many people.

Tonfisk Designer

Tonfisk founder and designer Brian Keaney came to Finland from Ireland in 1996 to study design and has been unable to leave Finland ever since. In 2007, he received the Ilmari Tapiovaara Award and the Ornamo Design Award in Finland. "Tonfisk" means "tuna fish" in Swedish. On a cold winter night, after failing to think of a company name that could capture the company's innovation, personality, and Finnish identity, Tonfisk was chosen. At the time, "Tonfisk" didn't seem to fit any of those things, but we thought it was great. Now, "Tonfisk" fits everything perfectly!
