About POLKA PAPER STUDIO

POLKA PAPER STUDIO is a family company launched by Kristiina Haapalainen and Sami Vähä-Aho. They met as students in Kuopio and are now based on the island of Kimito. Polkka Jam (now POLKA PAPER STUDIO) was born in 2002. Our goal was to combine fresh Finnish design with traditional craftsmanship. Originally, all products were handcrafted by us one by one, but today they are manufactured by factories in Finland. However, we still occasionally create handmade products ourselves. When creating designs, we draw inspiration from our surroundings, such as the town, nature, our home, and our studio. We have built the world of Polkka Jam together with passion over a long period of time. In 2014, Polkka Jam received the award for the best handicraft entrepreneur.

Production

We value local production and the "made in Finland" label. Our goal is to keep manufacturing as close to the end-user as possible. We also try to use natural materials whenever we can. For example, we use organic cotton for bed linen and a linen-cotton blend for other textile products. We use water-based, 100% non-toxic colors for textile printing and recycled paper for our paper products.

Environmental Responsibility

For the transport of our environmentally conscious products, we never use air freight. For our paper items, one of our product groups, we use only 100% recycled paper. By recycling and using paper, we can reduce waste in energy and resources. Furthermore, our manufacturing partners operate with environmental consideration. We use paper certified by the EU Ecolabel and Nordic Ecolabel, and it is printed at a factory in Turku that is FSC and PEFC certified. Our linen-cotton fabric is produced at a weaving mill in Lithuania, which is part of the Masters of Linen network. The Masters of Linen network is certified by an international organization that promotes high-quality European linen. We strive to manufacture with as little resource waste as possible and to create recyclable products. Our goal is to create high-quality, long-lasting products, which in turn leads to a reduction in our ecological footprint.
